1101/Wyoming/Continental Divide Trail Project: $7,500
A one-mile section of this hiker/equestrian trail near Buffalo Pass is severely braided. In fact, some of these multiple, side-by-side trails are a result of this being an old jeep road. FOW is partnering with Rocky Mountain Youth Corps on this project as part of our celebration of the 40th anniversary of the CDT and we are seeking to raise $7,500 to “pass-through” directly to RMYC for their portion of the labor. The Trail Maintenance Endowment Fund has identified this project as a priority and has contributed the first $2,400. FOW is seeking grants and additional contributions to raise the remaining $5,000.
Website Enhancement: $3,500
FOW is seeking to enhance it's website by moving the site to WordPress which is supported by several local web developers and will improve the functionality of the site including a robust calendaring capability which will greatly improve communication among members. This will make it much easier to update and enhance the site for use by a growing number of volunteers.
Garmin InReach Explorer Satellite Communicators: $450 Each
In the past, FOW trail patrol volunteers have communicated with the Forest Service via FS radios. However, this technology is not reliable in all remote locations or during weekends when FS staff are not available. We would like to purchase 2 Garmin InReach Explorer Satellite devices for use in communicating on the weekends and for marking the GPS coordinates of issues that need attention from trail crews. These robust units are easy to use and are able to communicate via text messages in almost any wilderness location. Cost: $450 each or a total of $900
